SEO Talk - Chron.com

I have given my SEO talk twice in as many weeks to groups at chron.com focusing on basic SEO principles. Both talks were fun and I believe helped the users to understand how they can think in more of a SEO frame of mind while they produce content for the web.

SEO Article for IFRA

Last month
the IFRA asked me to write a "Top 10" style cover story on Search Engine Optimization. I had a great time putting this together and hope to work with IFRA in the future.

Below is the version of the story I submitted. Note: there are subtle differences to what was published and what was submitted - such as the spelling of Optimization.

SEO Article for www.iframagazine.com

Ifra, the world's leading association for newspaper and media publishing, has asked me to write a "Top 10" SEO principles article for a package they are releasing in January. I am very excited about this opportunity. The article will be published in English, German, French, Spanish and Russian giving me lots of exposure.

The editor who contacted me said while she was researching her package on the web, she found my power point slides from my SEO talk I presented to the INMA in October. It goes to show the power of sharing one's work.

I will put a copy of my article here once it is published by Ifra.

SEO talk - INMA Conference Dallas

I gave a talk on SEO at the INMA conference in Dallas on October 19. The conference was a two day conference and I had a great time. All the speakers where talking about the future of newspapers from a marketing perspective. My only complaint is they had no free internet or power for laptops.

I presented the only technical talk. I learned a lot. Especially how most US newspapers are going after the long tail with local interest micro sites like indymoms.com or neighborsgo.com in Dallas. Below is the write up of my SEO talk from the INMA conference blog.

Search Engine Optimization: "Ultimately, content is king. Without content, you have nothing."

Steven Evatt, Sr. Online System Admin, Houston Chronicle

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) isn't the sexiest topic in the world, but it's an incredibly important part of users being able to find web sites. That leads to greater viewership, which in turn leads to potentially more lucrative advertising opportunities.

With that in mind, Steven Evatt, a senior online system administrator for Chron.com, the Houston Chronicle's web site, offered a basic education about helping users find your web site through search engines like Google and Yahoo.
